Is Uncle Sam Taking The Pants Off Us?

Thursday 10 June 2010 @ 3:58 pm

This is the gist of an article I went through this mor. Thought to share it with you. Yr views will be highly appreciated.
Very few know that Beau Brummell, credited with having invented trousers, also invented an economic model which could be called a debt spiral. When his tailor would present an unpaid bill, Brummel would order another three outfits, also on credit. Eventually, the dandy owed his tailor so much money that he became the tailor’s most valuable customer, whom the tailor could not afford to offend in the slightest way for fear of forfeiting all of Brummel’s IOUs.
The world’s supposedly richest nation, the US seem to have perfected this economic model. US debt has spiraled not just through the roof; it has rocketed out of the stratosphere. All the countries in the world , first, second or third, in some measure or the other, perforce to have to keep US dollars for the simple reason that almost all international trade is conducted in $$. China alone holds some $895.2 Billion of US treasury bonds.
This represents the biggest financial confidence trick in the world. Like Brummel, the US is living off the fat of the land on an ever growing mountain of debt which is being financed by the rest of the world. The US stopped making things- cars, ballpoint pens, TV sets- years ago. Other countries made all the things they needed and the US bought everything from these countries using US$$.
The only thing America needed to make were US$$ or US treasury bonds. Whenever America felt it’s running out of cash, as happened during the subprime crisis, all it had to do was print ,more money. This so called Almighty $$ is not backed by anything of real value. It’s not backed by gold, not any tangible goods because America no more produce them. There is only one thing that imparts value to the $: universal gullibility.
What can the world do to stop Uncle Sam take the pants off us?
A yuan-rupee hybrid??? Just a thought.

Does The Reason For This Auto Loan Denial By The Bank Make Sense?

Thursday 10 June 2010 @ 10:58 am

Last month my cousin applied for a used auto loan of $10800 through Wells Fargo Auto Finace and she was putting $2000 down on the car herself. She has been employed as a teacher for 3 years and has student loan debt and a department store card with no balance. She has $6600 in savings. Due to her limited credit she needed a cosigner. As I actually manage her brokerage account and prepare her taxes annually I am well aware of her ability to repay (please no lectures about co-signing). I agreed to do so as I have been a WF customer for years and have property financed by them as well as savings, IRA, etc. My credit score as a cosigner–760 with no installment payment and very little revolving debt. The WF loan officer–after reviewing my application stated it should be no problem to approve based upon the info he had and the income and assets involved by both of us. He proceeded to prep the actual loan paperwork in advance of underwriting approval.
However and much to both our surprise underwriting denied the loan and stated they would send a letter stating the reason why in 10 days–it actually was more like 30. I received the letter recently WITH MY NAME ON IT and it stated the reason for denial was due “past or delinquient payment.” As I had NO late payments on ANY accounts with all three bureaus I called WF Finance for an explanation. I was transferred to a manager who told me the reason for the denial was due to my cousin having one 30 day late payment two years ago and because her score was low due to her limited credit and mine was so high “they could not approve the loan due to the amount disparity in the score range and the weight of the score falls on the primary payer” HUH?? Well what the heck is the purpose of having a co-signer if the bank won’t approve a loan for $10800 with the backing of someone who has multiples of the loan amount in THEIR bank in various accounts? They denied the loan because she had a low score and I had a high one. Does this make sense to anyone??

I Can’t Make Up My Mind….. Can You Help?

Thursday 10 June 2010 @ 7:59 am

We’ve been TTC for 6 months now and still no luck, but I’m still breastfeeding my 14 month old 3 times a day for naps/bedtime so it’s not that surprising. But after all this time I’m having second thoughts. And third and fourth thoughts too. I don’t know if that is a sign we’re not ready, or if it happens to everyone.
We just got our life completely together. I got a new car (which was a big must for two kids) and I’m doing very well with my 14 month old and housework and so on.
We’re doing very well financially. We have our finances pretty under control. There are some bills we need to really crunch down on, but nothing big or drastic.
We’re travelling 1-2 times a month for about 400 miles to see his other daughter. We are considering a change of visitation. And we’re moving in 4 months somewhat closer.
I wanted a baby for months SO bad, and it fades about once a month when I have a really bad hormonal day. And lately I’ve just kinda not wanted another as much. Like I still do, but now there is a part of me that says wait. But I don’t want to wait. I have never wanted to wait. I really want another with all my heart. but I can’t decide if this is the right time or not.
What do you think?

Getting Married But My Finance And I Can’t Agree On Wedding Plans.?

Thursday 10 June 2010 @ 6:58 am

So my finance and I just got engaged. Him and I live 2 hours away from one another. We both are having a tough time trying to agree on where to have the wedding and how many guest we want to invite. I just don’t know what to do. I kind of want a good size wedding… 89 to 100 guest. He wants a small wedding… 50 guest or so. I don’t mind getting married in a large church. He wants a small church. What do you suggest we do? He’s such a head strong person. So when he thinks about things he doesn’t consider all options. Where as I try to be more logical. I need some advice. It’s becoming stressful and we’ve only been engaged for about two weeks.

Stealing Your Own Car (philippines). What Do You Think?

Thursday 10 June 2010 @ 4:59 am

This happened to someone I know….business associate but not necessarily a friend. I know she has shady dealings before, but what about this one?
She had a van and a CRV…so she sells the CRV and gets a new fully equipped Hilux..value 1.5 M, after downpayment, she has bank financing…..28k per month, I’m not sure of the length of contract.
After one week, the Hilux is stolen from her place of residence. So she immediately files a police report and contacts her insurance company…policy is 6000 dedectable, full coverage.
Insurance company tells her there’s a 3 month window for recovery of the vehicle. So within the 3 months the vehicle is found, but with body scratches, no accident and no major damage.
So the insurance company offers her return of the vehicle with repaint, she pays only the 6k. But she throws a fit asking for cash in the full value of the car. The insurance company refuses saying they recovered the car, and they only have to reurn it to her to fulfill their obligation.
When they asked her to see the vehicle, she refused, saying she only wanted cash, but they still refused.
She continued paying the bank financing up to now. But I’m suspicious, I think she initiated the whole thing to get some “cheap” financing for her business…eg…she gets cash from the insurance company, but she will use it in her business.
Has anyone heard of that. Any opinions?

Is Medicare Part D Making Your Life Worse Off?

Wednesday 9 June 2010 @ 11:59 pm

I have been on SSDI for over 25 years and periodically over those years I have enjoyed working on a p/t basis. Since the program Medicare Part D started, I can only work Jan - Sep because any time between Oct - Dec, they secretly check my income. If my income is just $30 over what I get for my SSDI check, it puts me over the limit so that I don’t qualify for the state to pay for my part B premium. If I don’t have that, then I don’t get a full subsidy from Social Security for Part D. And if I don’t have full subsidy, I don’t qualify to skip over the deductible and donut hole nightmare.
Not only that, but my finance and I can not get married because I will then loose that benefit from the State. If we get married, I’ll end up with $700 per month in Rx bills!!! And that is nearly my whole SSDI check per month.
What is your horror story with Medicare part D?

Is The Country Of Malaysia As Corrupt As The Philippines?

Wednesday 9 June 2010 @ 9:58 pm

The last time I was in the Philippines I had Makati police tell me that I either give them $300 or they will throw me in jail for a long time. I hadn’t done anything wrong in my opinion. Actually I had just flipped some people off because those people were cursing at me for not giving a beggar money. Does this sort of thing happen in Malaysia too? I read on a website that Malaysia was a really good place to retire and I am considering giving that place a visit but there is no sense in going there if Malaysia is as horrible as the Philippines as far as crime and corruption are concerned. The is the website that lists Malaysia as a good place to retire:http://finance.yahoo.com/focus-retiremen…
This is a website that Malaysia has to show programs that would benefit a foreigner that chooses to retire there. http://www.mm2h.gov.my/
So my immediate impression is that Malaysia is not as bad as the Philippines. I am just wondering if there is anybody that has lived in both places that could add to this.
