Double Barrelled Surname Dispute, Help?

Friday 30 July 2010 @ 4:58 pm

I have a rare Surname (No real names will be given) which I love very much. I’ve had a very happy upbringing attached to this surname and I really want to keep it in my name when I marry my fiance.
I am currently Jenny Jayne Furnish
My fiance took his step-dad’s name when he was 6, and he likes his name too.
When I marry him, I’d like to be…Jenny Jayne Furnish-Hemphell
Mrs Furnish-Hemphell
HE would prefer me to keep the Furnish, but not have a double barrelled surname, so I’d just be Mrs Hemphell.
One of my fiance’s two middle names was once a family surname, so he wants me to keep my maiden name as a “middle” name instead.
We don’t normally argue over things, we are very happy. BUT he says if I add the hyphen it “Devalues” his own surname.
He claims not to be old-fashioned and chauvanistic about this, (he’s a modern man or I wouldn’t be marrying him!), BUT…
Do any of you guys think my placing my lovely, unusual maiden name equal to his as a surname is in any way devaluing his name?
I’d like to make it clear, I’m not asking him to be MR Furnish-Hemphell, I’m just talking about myself with the hyphen. Not him, and not any children we may have, just me.
If this really does hurt his feelings as much as he says, I’d love to find a compromise, because at the moment we both stand to get hurt over this rather silly issue, which nevertheless is close to both our hearts.
Can anyone help with any of this mess?

Securities & Exchange Commission Has Declared Itself Above The Freedom Of Information Act, R U Ok With That?

Friday 30 July 2010 @ 4:57 pm

Read the following additional information before you answer whether you are ok with that or not.
The Regulatory agencies under Obama are working their way into non accountability to Congress & the people. We have no right to know what they are doing? FBI can just take electronic communications without a warrant? No judge involved? No congress involved?
They can control your activities if it has anything to do with your health, get any information about you if it pertains to health, and make it open to any authority they deem fit.
The Presidency is not accountable to law made by our representatives. They enforce what they want, and create defacto law without congress via regulation we can’t find out about & Congress can’t be shown. For instance they won’t protect the border, and they are taking the right of States to protect their own people … so if they like Mexican invasion, they will favor them by force of … force of what exactly? Law? No … Force of Dictatorship is what it’s become. Brought to us by the bunch who follow Mao closely & agree; Mao: “political power comes out of the barrel of a gun” a quote often used by Obama advisors as well as his friends in the Weather Underground. Van Jones, Obama & Jarret friend, former Green Jobs Czar, founder of the Communist Radical Group STORM
These guys all infest the same little toilet bowl in our country, now they are in power, you still ok with all those little steps that put us under stiff control of a government that idolizes Mao & is running out of our (we the people’s) control?

African Americans Would You Buy A House That Once Housed Slaves?

Friday 30 July 2010 @ 3:58 pm

I am doing some renovating and cleaning out of this old historical house for a female friend who just purchased it. The house is pretty old and its stipulated that the house has to remain in its original form. In other words she can’t change or alter any of the foundation. Its in a really nice neighborhood with modern expensive type homes. First why would someone who owned slaves stipulate they want the house to remain in its original form? Then, why would any African American want to purchase it knowing its history? Do anyone find this kind of strange?

Why Did Alan Greenspan Say That The Iraq War Was To Protect Oil Interests?

Friday 30 July 2010 @ 3:58 pm

He said in his book, The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World:
“I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil,” he says.
He later elaborated:
His main support for Hussein’s ouster, though, was economically motivated. “If Saddam Hussein had been head of Iraq and there was no oil under those sands,” Greenspan said, “our response to him would not have been as strong as it was in the first gulf war. And the second gulf war is an extension of the first. My view is that Saddam, looking over his 30-year history, very clearly was giving evidence of moving towards controlling the Straits of Hormuz, where there are 17, 18, 19 million barrels a day” passing through.
Greenspan said disruption of even 3 to 4 million barrels a day could translate into oil prices as high as $120 a barrel — far above even the recent highs of $80 set last week — and the loss of anything more would mean “chaos” to the global economy.
Given that, “I’m saying taking Saddam out was essential,” he said. But he added that he was not implying that the war was an oil grab.
“No, no, no,” he said. Getting rid of Hussein achieved the purpose of “making certain that the existing system [of oil markets] continues to work, frankly, until we find other [energy supplies], which ultimately we will.”http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/sep…http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,2969…http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con…http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/wo…

What Are Some Historical Events That Didn’t Occur Like It’s Been Told?

Friday 30 July 2010 @ 12:58 pm

Well, if a historical event didn’t occur like it’s been told, I doubt anybody would know about it.
However, the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, as taught to children in school, does not include many details of how much of a supreme ****** Christopher Columbus was. Not only had America been discovered prior to his expedition, but a lot of history books ignore his torture and cruelty to natives.

Atheists Why Is There No Proof In An Old World?

THERE ARE NO HISTORICAL ACCOUNTS OVER 6000 YEARS OLD. ALSO IF WE HAVE BEEN ALIVE FOR A MILLION YEARS, WHY DID WE GO FROM COMPLETELY PRIMITIVE TO ADVANCED IN THE LAST 100 YEARS.
